2012 Seattle Science Festival

The inaugural Seattle Science Festival in 2012 was a huge success, elevating awareness of and interest in science and technology throughout our community during the month of June. This could not have been possible without the great generosity of our sponsors, the hard work and dedication of our collaborators and partners and community-wide participation. We are particularly grateful to JPMorgan Chase, the 2012 Festival's lead sponsor, for their early and significant support for this project.

Science EXPO Day took place on June 2 at Seattle Center and exceeded all expectations. Under sunny skies, 20,000 children, students, adults and families came to Seattle Center to enjoy the more than 130 exhibits, hands-on science experiments, activities, performances and demonstrations that were offered throughout the day. Over the course of Science Festival Week, June 3-10, more than 20,000 people participated in over 100 events that showcased exciting applications of science and technology at venues all around the Puget Sound region. Headlined by Dr. Stephen Hawking, the five-part Luminaries Series took place throughout June. The Luminaries events delighted audiences by combining presentations of cutting-edge science and technology with thematically-linked artistic and musical performances. As Jerry Large of The Seattle Times wrote, "Science and technology are vital to Seattle and now, they are fun too!" We've always found the pursuit of these fields fun and exciting, and we are thrilled to have shared this enthusiasm with such a broad audience.
